Back on Monday, Chad le Clos started a long week at South African Nationals with his first swim in the 50 Fly. He didn’t hit the FINA A time, but according to this interview with Karien Jonckheere he still plans on swimming that event. After the situation with a burst pipe was fixed, le Clos easily won and qualified for the two other butterfly events on the schedule.
On Friday morning, the Olympic superstar and champion swam in his best event, the event in which he knocked off Michael Phelps in London, he swam a 1:56.35 to cruise to victory and a FINA Automatic Qualifying Time. That pushes him to the third-fastest time in the world in 2013, and the fastest from outside of the Asian continent.
On Saturday, Le Clos put together the top swim of the night session, dominating the field in the 100 fly to qualify in his third individual event. He touched in 51.79, which is number one in the world this year, and the only person to break 52.
