The International Swimming League (ISL) is a brand new global professional swimming series which features an innovative team-based competition format with fast paced race sessions, something never before seen on the swimming stage.

As co-captain of Team Energy Standard with Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström, Le Clos helped build a strong bond amongst his team mates to keep them motivated throughout the various meets they took part in – Indianapolis, Naples and London – in order to reach the final in Las Vegas.

Amongst Chad’s most notable highlights of the first season were his close win over USA’s Caeleb Dressel in Naples in the 100m fly and being named MVP at the European Derby in London, no mean feat with the races that Le Clos competes in. It was also the first time that Chad had been back to swim competitively in the London Aquatic Centre following his victory over Michael Phelps in 2012.

The success of Team Energy Standard in London solidified their ticket to the December final in Las Vegas. With expectations high for the inaugural ISL final at the Mandalay Bay Resort, the Energy Standard team fought hard throughout the two-day competition. Lead by Head Coach James Gibson, the team became the first ever ISL World Champions providing a fantastic finish to 2019 with 7 months to go before the Tokyo Olympic Games.
