LE CLOS LAUNCHES SWIM FOUNDATION

The sport of swimming continues to make a big splash in South Africa, as one of the World’s most decorated swimmers, Chad Le Clos announced the launch of his Foundation this week. The Chad Le Clos Foundation, which is partnering with the aQuelle Midmar Mile, the World’s biggest open water swimming event, seeks to raise funds to advance the development of swimming within South Africa.

Le Clos has his sights set on further Olympic glory in Tokyo 2020 with 4 Olympic medals in his trophy cabinet already. After becoming the most successful Commonwealth Games swimmer of all times in 2018, with 17 Games medals to his name, Le Clos is looking to build a future around his global success which benefits others and the sport in general.

Le Clos commented, “I am extremely excited to announce the launch of my Foundation with Midmar Mile as both have such a major role to play in our sport.” The Foundation aims to advance the development, participation and performance of all South Africans within the sport of swimming.

Julian Taylor, CEO of the Foundation, and former category winner at the Midmar Mile, endorsed Le Clos’ suitability for the project, “His passion is swimming but specifically young kids, he is a role model and hands-on inspiration, now he is raising funds to ensure that he keeps the kids swimming.”

Le Clos added his thanks to Midmar Mile Race Director Wayne Ridden, who has been instrumental in building the race into a global success story. “Partnering with the Midmar Mile is huge credibility for the Foundation,” noted Le Clos, “we thank Wayne sincerely for the opportunity.”

More details on the Foundation, fund raising opportunities and their programmes will be released in the buildup to the aQuelle Midmar Mile, which will be held on the 9th and 10th February 2019.
