The XXI Commonwealth Games saw Chad le Clos make history in more ways than one. With a tough schedule to contend with consisting of seven events in five days he certainly didn’t make it easy for himself.

The first event for Chad was the 50m Butterfly and he secured gold, holding off the challenge of Trinidad’s Dylan Carter, in a time of 23.37 seconds. Chad took a distinct liking to the Butterfly events throughout the games, backing up his gold in the 50m Butterfly with two more gold medals in the 100m and 200m Butterfly. Chad secured a Commonwealth Games record in both events with 50.65 in 100m and 1:54:00 in 200m and his victory in the 200m Butterfly was so emphatic that he managed to win by over 2 clear seconds.

Chad’s success at the games did not end there. He took home a 48.15 silver medal in the 100m Freestyle behind Duncan Scott (SCO) who won the race in 48.02, as well as securing a bronze for South Africa in the 4 X 100 Medley Relay. His bronze medal was one of huge significance as it took Chad clear as the most decorated Commonwealth Games Swimmer of all time with 17 medals.
